The Armenian National Committee of America-San Fernando Valley chapter issued an appeal to the community Wednesday urging community participation in a hearing regarding redistricting of Los Angeles City Council districts.
Below is the appeal from the ANCA-San Fernando Valley chapter:
The ANCA-San Fernando Valley West needs your help. Please attend the next redistricting hearing at Pierce College this Saturday and make your voice heard!
Saturday, February 4, 2012, 11:00AM
Pierce College: The Great Hall
6201 Winnetka Avenue, Woodland Hills, CA 91367
(Please arrive 1 hour early to fill out a speaker card. Space is limited)
Every 10 years, a redistricting commission redraws the City Council boundaries. Their decision affects our immediate community including Ferrahian, our Church, sister organizations and residences.
Instead of combining our Armenian communities in the Valley, the new map splits the large Armenian community and weakens our voting power. The commission has already published initial draft maps that are not acceptable to our community. They are proposing that Encino and Sherman Oaks be joined with Silver Lake, Hollywood and Los Angeles . This is unacceptable.
Attend the next hearing this Saturday and if you are willing, fill out a speaker card and let the commission know:
- That you are against the draft maps
- The Armenian Community of the West Valley should not be divided.
Everyone!!! Call and email your city council member!!! Complain. It’s the only way to stop it!!!!!!
