LITTLE ARMENIA—Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School is very proud to announce that this year their Girls’ Varsity Volleyball team has gone above and beyond in their achievements. They first became League Champions in the CIF Southern Section Playoffs. They then advance into the quarter finals of the Division Playoffs, and finally they were selected as the 2012 CIF Southern Section Team Academic Champion.
The team’s overall grade point average was 3.966, the highest from all schools in the Southern Section with an enrollment of fewer than 1500 students. “To have our girls’ team win this award out of about 320 other schools is a great honor,” said Sarkis Balian, Pilibos Athletic Director. “I’m very proud of our girls and their achievements on and off the volleyball court.”
The Girls’ Volleyball team, whose members are Kristina Safarian, Mariann Shaginian, Ani Der-Grigorian, Areni Der-Grigorian, Anahit Tataryan, Gina Khachatrian, Natalie Boghikian, Nanor Kassabian, Maria Boyadjian, Nanar Deirdeirian, Vivian Kasparian, will be honored at the Academic Awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, prior to the baseball game between the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Minnesota Twins. The team and their coach, Levik Abrahamians, will be honored at home plate and receive a banner to commemorate the occasion.
“I am very excited about this honor and extremely proud of our girls’ volleyball team,” said Dr. Alina Dorian, principal of Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School. “We in the school know that our students are doing excellent work, and to have that excellent work recognized by an outside agency adds extra validation to our achievements. It is amazing to have such a competitive team that is also so strong academically. This is our goal for each and every student at Pilibos. I hope everyone in the Pilibos family will join us on May 1 at Angel Stadium to celebrate this honor.”
