YEREVAN (Combined Sources)—Armenia’s Deputy Defense Minister Ashot Hovakimyan and US Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern signed an agreement Tuesday on cooperation between the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia and the US Department of Defense on assistance in border security to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
The agreement is aimed at revealing and preventing the illegal transport of such weapons, related technologies and materials through Armenia, training specialists, as well as appointing technical representatives of the US to Armenia.
Also on Tuesday, a delegation of the Federal Council on Defense and Security of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation held meetings at the Armenian Ministry of Defense.
The delegation was hosted by Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Colonel General Yuri Khachaturov.
During the meetings the parties discussed the condition of the Russian military base 102 in Armenia and the specifics of its activity, the Defense Ministry press service reported.
Is this a joke? While Armenia starts acting like the US’s lap-dog, our “most cherished allies” Azerbaijan and Turkey are talking to NATO and the US about “territorial integrity”. If anything, Armenia should start producing weapons of mass destruction on a massive scale and pointing them at Baku and Ankara, then negotiate for genocide reparations.
Kevork your dreaming brother. Armenia can not afford to build WMD, nor does it have the technology to do it. We are losing 50,000 people per year to immigration and your proposing a 100 billion dollar project….
The Armenian Government and the U.S. Government should first agree to move the border post between Armenia and Turkey to the borders decided by the President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson.
Perhaps now the U.S. Mission in Armenia can turn its attention to negotiating a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement, a Double Tax Treaty, and a Free Trade Agreement with Armenia. – Aram Suren Hamparian (ANCA).
So with a bit of arm wrestling we were forced to abandon weapons of mass destruction, however, the jewish state is not, neither is turkey who has hundreds of students in mid western universities majoring in nuclear engineering. An inheritor of a genocidal state is allowed to develop and purchase weapons of mass destruction and use it against it’s own population, but a state that has experienced genocide is forced to abandon it. Thanks Barry.
It seems that the state department has a personal vendetta against the Christian population of the Near East and Armenia.
