BRUSSELS (Combined Sources)—Armenia’s Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan on Tuesday urged the European Union to impose sanctions against Azerbaijan for its continued militarization of the Nagrono-Karabakh conflict.
Speaking to the European Voice newspaper, the prime minister, who is on a working visit to Brussels, said the EU should threaten Azerbaijan with sanctions, and clarify what those sanctions will, since Azerbaijan is attempting to undermine the OSCE Minsk Group-led peace process.
He also urged the EU to work toward ending Azerbaijan’s attempts to militarize the South Caucasus and urge that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict be resolved peacefully.
Sargsyan also discussed the upcoming EU-Armenia talks on a comprehensive trade agreement, which are scheduled for June 19.
The prime minister told European Voice that a deep and comprehensive free trade agreement with the EU would require a new infrastructure in Armenia.
He clarified that Armenia’s relations with Russia and the EU are complimentary, but stressed that Armenia was no interested in joining the Eurasia Union, which was founded in 2010 and includes as members Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
Sargsyan also said the relations between Armenia and Russia will not change with Vladimir Putin’s return to power in Russia.
Since when has Europe been our friend. Armenia should immediately blow up the pipelines in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has declared war on Armenia and blowing up the pipelines is an act of self defense. Azerbaijan’s oil economy will crumble overnight and will send the Aliev Dynasty into hiding and then to Monaco.
Cool your jets Z!
Taking out the pipelines now is premature…..
Once that happens war will accelerate…Turkey and Europe will go against us hard.
Destruction of pipelines is a great deterrent for major hostilities…
Don’t want to play your hand foolishly.
I agree with this, I don’t know why Armenia also does not give an ultimatum to these terrorists that one more Armenian death means Artsakh is recognized immediately by Armenia, and the next act of terrorism thereafter will be considered an outright invasion of Armenia itself.
Zareh, calm down.
Blowing things up will make it seem like both sides are looking for violence, WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY NOT TRUE.
Armenians simply want to live peacefully in their homes. Azerbaijanis continue to hunt for Armenian blood.
I understand peace, but if there is a war, there is no peace…..Armenian’s have been preached this for more than 100 years and this is were it got us. We don’t need to have man fighting in war, we can simply have equipment that can do that for us….just saying. And defending yourself isn’t violence its respecting your own life and loving it. Once you are in the game you are in the game! And to add to your last quote, True Armenia wants to live peacefully in their homes, but how could they when 90% of their home is occupied by barbaric civilians who happen to be happy destroy it.
Zareh, that made me laugh.
I agree with the other comments. The threat to the pipelines is a great deterrent for further Azeri aggression.Once the war does break out, destroy the pipelines by all means but not now.
The dumb Europeans have don’t have the brains to realize that building a Mediterranean pipeline from Algeria or Morroco to Europe would be an even better route to getting oil to Europe. They should invest in oil recycling technology and should not abandon nuclear energy. Fukushima will not happen in Europe.
The Armenian government should have filed a protest with the UN security council and UN general assembly. If Armenia is attacked, all Armenians in the US should withdraw their money from US banks and put their money into Russian and Swiss Banks. Swiss banks are very secure and in addition, Switzerland has made it a criminal offense to deny the Armenian Genocide. The Swiss banks are the best.
