WASHINGTON—Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday pushed for a greater Turkish role in the Nagorno Karabakh issue.
While discussing the 2014 Foreign Affairs budget at the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Kerry called Turkey a constructive regional player in the Mideast peace process, the ongoing Syrian crisis, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the Cyprus issue.
“Through regular talks held with Washington, Ankara is assisting us on the settlement of the two frozen conflicts — the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict [between Armenia and Azerbaijan] and the Cyprus issue. I think Turkey will be a constructive player on these issues and we are looking forward to maintaining constructive ties with Ankara,” Kerry said in response to question by members of Congress.
“This is like pouring fuel on the fire,” said Armenian National Committee of America Executive Director Aram Hamparian. “Despite Turkey’s growing anti-Armenian bias Secretary Kerry said at his testimony before the House Foreign Affairs Committee that Ankara could play a ‘constructive role’ in resolving that ‘frozen conflict.’”
F…OF! America
Not a surprising reaction. But I suppose the U.S. has given up hope on Saakashvilizing Armenia and doesn’t care how much closer it ties Armenia with Russia.
However I feel like stupid comments like this wouldn’t have been necessary, the U.S. have already lost the Caucasus for good. So maybe Mr. Kerry should spend his time and energy on Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, the Pacific, the Mexican drug war, etc.? Just a thought.
Mr. Kerry,
Absolutely NOT.
For past 20 years Turkey has closed its border with Armenia in an attempt to destroy Armenia and now you think Turkey can play a constructive role in resolving Artsakh issue?
F…OF! America. ooops, Sorry should of been- F… OF! Turkey
they’re all a joke.
Does this surprise anyone? Kerry is an intellectual lightweight and puppet of the Obama regime.
Wow what a great idea why did not Armenia think of this first?
Kerry is showing extreme naivety.
kerry was supporterof armenian causes , but apperently he is getting closer with Ankara.mr KERRY Turks are like wolfls . do not trust them
Not till hell freezes over. while you’re at it Mr. secretary why don’t you recommend few Nazi’s to be part the board of directors at the holocaust museum in Washington DC
Constructive role in Cyprus??? Turkey is illegally occupying Cyprus!!! They are the cause of the problem!
HAhaha.. The crysis, the conflict and the ISSUE LOL… since when Cyprus is an issue and those two others are not… Kerry and US get your head out of Turkey’s dark place…
Turkey a constructive regional player (…). Laughing my ass off!!!
“Ankara is assisting us on the settlement of the two frozen conflicts — the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict [between Armenia and Azerbaijan] and the Cyprus issue” … Now I can’t contain myself, this is just too funny. Invade a “NATO” (where was NATO by the way?) country, then assist the US on the settlement of the invasion. Hilarious. Oh, and yes, I am sure they have a lot of constructive assistance to provide in Artsakh, see 1914!
Kerry is to be envied for his deep insight into politics.
Looks like Secretary Kerry has crossed over to the dark side.
He didn’t have to cross over, they are always on Turkey’s side because they are told to be…
Kerry is another ignoramus political deception. Who is going to allow a turkish role in Karabagh ? The man is insane, or politically mendacious. It is like asking for foxes to look after hencoops.
MR, karry-you should say turkey must play constructive role in solving the first and important issue which is The –ARMENIAN GENOCIDE AND ITS TERRITORIES –secondly turkey better not even think about to play a constructive role when it comes to Artsakh(n gharabagh) .Artsakh the armenian territory has been liberated 22 years ago.DONT put petrol on the fire…Thirdly –syprus issues could have been solved by you(USA)and turkey in late 1974.
Why are statements like these even considered news anymore? You people act like it is such a shock that an American Secretary of State would say something like this. Is it not clear, that by being allied with Turkey, the US would want it to have a larger say in regional affairs? Good luck ending that alliance.
F,,F,,F,,F,,,John Kerry,,To Hell,, John Kerry…..
No Comment,,For This Criminal Kerry..
No,,Comment,, Very Bad Situation for Armenia,,Karabagh,And Armenians,,,
Sorry,,No Comment..
Than Greater Role should be given to Iran
Obummer must be mentally challenged to pick two losers,in the last couple months kerry and the drunk hagle.I cant understand kerry his wife has money, unless hes overly greedy or dumb;the other one hagle has always been for sale.
This makes me want to throw up. We supported him so wholeheartedly in 2004 and now, in his new position of power, he is turning his back on us. Of all people, we had some hope in his support for our cause. Does he believe Turkey will be an unbiased broker of a peaceful resolution? What happened Senator Kerry? Selective amnesia?
Tsoghig,
John Kerry is a loser. Only he could lose an election to the most unpopular President in modern American History. He’s always been fake and a pansy. He didn’t respond to the Swift Boat attacks and lost the most winnable election.
At least Republicans like McCain/Cheney/Bush will come out and say what they will do. Democrats like Hillary, Kerry, Obama… they make you believe in the tooth fairy than punches you in the gut when you least expect it. (that’s sure how it feels every time one of these skilled politicians turns their back on our community)
It will be difficult for things to change until a state like California becomes competitive in a Presidential election, or more Armenians decide to live in Florida or Ohio. Need to hold these political parties accountable.
kerry ought to go live in turkey with the villagers and eat their food and share their toilet-
Turkey already has a role by providing political and military support to Azerbaijan.
Does Kerry want more of the same?
“Greater role” in NK? “Assisting” in Cyprus issue? The one they illegally invaded and occupying? Ha ha ha. Another Washington AMATEUR who has no clue what he’s talking about. Get lost, Frankenstein’s mummy, you are just another clueless fool in a long line of clueless fools. Idiots like you don’t understand we will join the devil before we let Turkey make any decision for us or get in our business.
Is it the 1st of April again ? How can a politician which is secratary of state think Turkey can have a constructive role ? It either states how ignorant he is on the subject, or how much the US want’s to suck up to Turkey for whatever (Isreal/Syia/Egypt) reasons…
Why is it when we lose a territory in which we have lived in for millenia like Western Armenia and Nakhichevan no one cares yet when we stand for Artsagh everyone wants to meddle in an talk about “ressetlement “etc…
Where is the ressetlement of Nakhichevan or Wetsern Armenia mr Kerry?
I once was a pacifist now I am conviced :” mimyayn zenkov pergotyoon ga”.We definetly should go the path of Iran and be extremely defient. Wake up people we are programmed to be wiped off. gamatz gamatz bidi tchetchen mezi!
TURKEY IS VERY PRO AZERI AND ANTI ARMENIAN ON KARABAG ISSUE.SECRETARY KERRY IS DEAD WRONG TO THINK TURKEY,S PARTICIPATION WILL HELP SETTLING KARABAG CONFLICT.KARABAG ALWAYS BELONGED TO ARMENIA, AND THERE IS NOTHING TO SETTLE , AZERIS STARTED THE WAR AND ARMENIA WON!!! ARMENIA KNOWS VERY WELL NOT LET HER GUARD DOWN AGINST AZERIS BECAUSE BETRAYAL IS VERY NATURAL TO THEM. (RAMIL SAFIROV KNIFED SLEEPING ARMENIAN SOLDIER IN HUNGARY,MUBARIZ IBRAHIMOV SNEAKED INTO ARMENIA KILLED WOMEN,CHILDREN).ARMENIA CAN LIVE WITH AZERIS LIKE EKREM AYLISLI A MODERATE AZERI WHO WRITES THE TRUTH ABOUT WAR DESPITE THREATS!!
is this idiot for real?! the same turkey that unconditionally supports azerbaijan? the same turkey that occupied cyprus? the same turkey that wiped the armenian population of western armenia, denies it even still, and now wants to see the end of our existance in artsakh?
This would be like bringing the “Nazies” to resolve the Isreali and Palestine crises!
Turkey today denying the Geoncide of 1.5 million Christian Armenian’s and Kerry wants Turkey to get involved in Karabakh issue? Well they are involed Mr. Kerry they have closed there border with Armenia for over 20 years for there turlic brothers ! Kerry for years the Armenian community suppoted you if your not going to help Armenia please stay away form this issue at least give us that common courtesy!!!!!!!!!!!
Armenians must build strong army with the state of the art weapon systems. Otherwise, they will be irrelevant in the near future. Having top guns is much better than soft tongues.
The best thing Turkey and Armenia could do at this point would be simply to open diplomatic relations. This could be done by two ambassadors or ministers exchanging notes in Tbilisi or Moscow or New York. Neither side would give up any substantive position, past or future. It would not even be necessary to open physical embassies in each other’s capital. This could be done by the executives of the two countries, without seeking the permission of the parliaments. Diplomatic relations simply allow the two parties to communicate officially with each other. Azerbaijan might not like it, but it would help overall.
Agreed, but will Turkey ever do that? They’ve obstructed everything else to show support for the Azeri’s
There is an Armenian proverb that says show me who your friends are and I will show you or tell you who you are. Case in point, the close friendship between the Genocidale, undemocratic and Islamist Turkey and the our US government with Barak Obama at the helm. I guess birds of a feather stick together for ever and ever.
How can Turkey – known as the the world’s biggest prison for journalists – a country well documented for intimidating critics and stifling free speech play any role in promoting dialogue for peace? Anyone who knows anything about history understands that murder, not mediation, has been and continues to be Turkey’s forte.
Get real kerry the turks are using you as a tool.
Armenian leaders are traitors! Armenia needs better leaders and Armenia should protest Kerry!
MR KERRY YOU BETTER STUDY HISTORY OF OTTOMAN EMPIRE .THEIR BLOODSHED , THEIR INHUMANITY TOWARD ARMENIANS .GREEKS. ASSIRIANS , KURDS AND REST OF THE OTHER POPPLES, AND AS YOU KNOW MR. KERRY. DAVUTOGLO IS TRYING TO GO BACK TO HIS OTTOMAN RULES, HE IS A DECEPTIVE FOX WITH THE TITLE OF FOREIGN MINISTER. AND THIS IS TO YOU MR DAVUTOGLE . SOON OR LATER YOU MUST . GIVE BACK ALL THE OCCUPIED LAND OF ARMEINANS. MUSH . KARS ANI ARDAHAN SASUN VAN ALL THEY WAY TO BLACK SEE. ARMENIAN HAVE BEEN LIVING THREE AND ENTIRE ANATOLIA FOR THOUSAND OF YEARS. YOU ARE THE NEW OCCUPIERS OF ARMENIAN LAND YOU TURKS BELONG TO CENTRAL ASIA.GO BACK AND LIVE WITH YOUR UYGUR BROTHERS.
In behave of all Artsakh people, i can assure that Turkey never had a role in that region and never will – it is Russians back door, and only Russia plays and makes decision there. Therefore, don’t take seriously this newly hired clown’s words.
You see my brothers and sisters why we don’t need any western intervention in our homeland. The west can go (beep) itself with its human rights, democracy doublr standard BS. Our only hope is a north-south alliance. Russia-Georgia-Armenia-Iran. Lets put the others in blockade and keep NATO the (beep) out.
Mr. Kerry, Turkey has played a destructive role in many nations and the most recent one is Syria and it’s Armenian community, tell me how they can be constructive in Karabakh. First, Mr. Kerry, you have to recognize the Armenian Genocide yourself and second you have to bring Turkey to justice for what they did and if you can’t do that then you have no credibility and you have no business with Armenia and Karabakh.
Mr. kerry
We armenians are not shocked by your stand. The President, Mrs. Clinton, and you now the Honorary Mr. Kerry.
We will take this blow from you with sorrow. You forgot the Armenian’s support of your elected positions so fast. Poor memory. Elections will come again. We will not forget. But some feeling of shame is needed on your part
The flip-flopper is back.
Kerry, go f*** yourself!
Let’s start with diplomatic relations and opening of borders before stirring the pot even more Mr. Kerry. Please don’t disrespect the people who supported you while you were Senator. You indeed sound like you have crossed over to the dark side.
……GRATER TURKISH ROLE MY ASS, we all know about grater turkish role and genoside so what the fuck you talking about,or maybe you looking for another genoside from seek man of Europe.
Mr Kerry what is wrong with you,are serious or what…..
Well, Turkey is a NATO member; Armenia isn’t. It doesn’t matter for Kerry if Turkey has an evil past or not; committed a Genocide against it’s own Christian minority. The same goes with the US Administration. I guess, after all, we’re not going to have a just act from the State Department. To understand this, study and check who controls the State Department. Check the list of names employed in there. Use Google to search for info. Is it pro Christian? I guess, not.
Mr. Kerry just like any American official at the top will always sell our cause to the highest bidder. Shame on all American politicians. They are all like a chameleon. They change color anytime to match the requrements of their filthy policies of the day. Kerry’s change of color – just like Mr. Obama’s – is the biggest insult to the Armenian nation in recent years. They are certified liers & untrustworthy to the bones. Since President Wilson, no other American official has done anything significant for the Armenian cause. Shame is too little to label their injustice…
To all Armenians: Do not be fooled again. As long as America has Geo-political and Economic interests with Turkey, Washington’s policies will always be anti-Armenian in nature. Unless 51% of the US Senate & Congress are Armenian + the Chief of Staff and/or Secretary of State, America will deny our Gencide for another 10,000 years!!! Do not waste your resources and energies on trying to get Genocide recognition from Washington. Think with Armenian ingenuity to resolve our cause. Think of ways to weaken Turkey economically, like banning its goods from the local markets. Like influencing other not-so-friendly governments of embargoing Turkish goods on the world markets… and other peaceful ways. Create economic, industrial and politacal sabotage without a single bullet. These are the ways to defeat Turkey and bring it to its knees.
John Kerry the Secretary of States, clinging to the Turkey’s pants in a bid to secure a regional ally, is in its entirety and in the first lace an inheritance of a big mistaking. You are just following the footstep of predecessor’s policy. Turkish government is notorious as a perpetrator for eradicating Armenian nation ” the Genocide”. Such an ally you already have in the region one in Iraq- Noori and one in Afghanistan Hamid. both back stabbing allies.
As a matter of fact as soon as you proposed a third party to take action on behalf of the United States.it revealed how badly you are stuck in the quagmire of foreign affairs. For us it’s unacceptable to have a mortal enemy to infer in Artsakh and Cyprus. Artsakh (N Garabagh belongs to Armenia and Cyprus belongs to Greeks, period,
We can’t allow a notorious enemy like Turkey to intervene in the issues related to the Armenian and Greek nations. It’s undisputable fact that Artsakh belong to Armenians and Cyprus belongs to Greek. No one would hold the authority to rubber- stamp seizing other territory because once they were upper hand with the armed forces, Look at the territorial size of the Turkey. Illegally occupancy of neighboring nation’s land,.
It’s better for him to let greater turkish role in his family buisness.
Never ever trust western politicians!
Sober-up kerry,or rehab from DRUGS.
Does anyone really think that Kerry, the current US administration and all previous administrations and other foreign governments are not aware of the past historical facts, present situation and future socio demographic and political forecasts of any region in our world??? Now that will be naive. Poor us, we jump from one hopeful to another, supporting, educating, campaigning and so on and so forth. We cheer when all these unworthy lying two cent worth politicians whose humanitarian rhetorics during their speeches mesmerize our intellects and numb our perception of reality rendering us into hopeful wishers of a utopic end result. The reality is different. It is a calculated evaluation of global resources and the control of these directly or indirectly. In a nutshell a global chess game and humanity as a whole are the pawns that can be sacrificed without one iota of hesitation. Humanity? Consitutional Rights? Human Rights? what a joke, these are just worth the paper they are written on when it comes to politics, these are utility tools for them to control and direct public thought, and nothing less then perception management (this was invented by the Zionist political engine). Unfortunately it is what it is. It is up to us and our duty to unfortunately prolong the inevitable assimilation of our Armenian identity. We owe it to the spilled blood of our fathers, grandfathers and ancestors. By fighting assimilation into a foreign identity, which eventually will shelf the genocide issue by default, we will at least be an irritation, a distraction to their disgusting and cold blooded calculation. God help us in our efforts, and help our Armenian identity. Having exercised my right foir free speech, on a personal level, I cherish our constitution, I believe in every single word it contains. Unfortunately I have the least of respect to all politicians in the world. They have prostituted their mind, heart soul and humanity. God Bless ou country America and our Armenian identity, nation and future.
I strongly agree. But we should not be limited in the zone of self-preservation. You and me and all like minded Armenians should carry the task of awakening millions of our brothers and sisters from their mental deep freeze in an organized fashion. We cannot bring back our martyred ancestors or reverse our history. However, we can plan and implement a counter-attack on history’s injustice to us… We can defeat our enemy without a single bullet!!! Please read my comments and you’ll get the idea.
Hovaz
God Bless Your words. I don’t need to get your idea. I am and will continue living it. I wish every Armenian’s mind and heart reflect your words from thought to reality.
The US cuts aid to Armenia and for decades disrespects our martyrs with imbeciles like kerry and then the administration idiotically wonders why Armenia has better ties with Russia…ummm…duhhh!!! LOL
Admit it obama you just havent made Armenians an offer we can’t refuse. When you do we may consider it but until then you and your washed up sycophants can keep dreaming.
And we still have Democracy Now(!) idiots in Armenia doing the biding of these anti-Armenian vipers in Washington…
Kerry is a malleable rubber puppet of a politician. He will croon the latest hit his masters voice programs it. The politician is a deceptive man. He has raised expectations in the past with promises to the ar. Cause, only to renege soon after. There is a political agenda behind karabakh. The USA NATO and its alies want instability in that area with the purpose of undermining Iran and Russia. Kerry is doing his job. Today the Turks and their policies are the flavor which suits the Americans to promote their schemes in that corner of the world.
I dont see why people are suprised about this, the US has no reasons to be our friends. I’ve posted this view before:
Why would the US pander to Armenia while it is in strong allegiance with its historic and current opponents, i.e. Iran and Russia?
Sure Armenia itself is not a threat, but it is supporting US enemies. As you know, a large part of US international policy is about energy security, including energy security for the EU/Europe. Also, as you are probably aware, the US and EU actively work to cut reliance on Russian energy, especially the EU. The main alternative to Russian energy is from Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, but Azerbaijan is the main source as well as a potential future transit point for Central Asian energy resources (pipelines, shipments, etc). Armenia, openly threatens Azerbaijan’s energy resources, thereby Armenia openly threatens EU energy security.
Taking in to account the above, what reason, other than lobbying by ANCA and AAPAC, does the US and/or EU have to support Armenia?
At this point, it’s OUR COLLECTIVE DOLLAR POWER against theirs’… If the majority of Armenians (say 60 – 70 %) become politically and nationally CONSCIOUS and pool their economic muscle into the Armenian cause, I GUARANTEE that we will muster enough geo-political, socio-economic, military and cultural influence on the globe in favor of our cause, that not only puppets like Obama & Kerry will kiss our Armenian ass and do our bid at that point, it is Turkey herself that will bow before us asking for mercy on her genocidal past and peacefully return all of the occupied lands to its rightful owners…
It all starts from us the handful of few Armenians that consider every day of the year April 24th…
We have to mentally transform those Armenians that fill the the casinos on April 24th of every year on Las Vegas Blvd!! considering it a national day of vacation and pleasure!!! By saying this, I am whissling an alarm to let Armenians wake up from their deep sleep and persue a very possible mission that might take a decade or two to realize it. That mission is to bring Turkey to its knees. We can do it collectively. We don’t need politically corrupt or fake figures like Kerry, Obama or Sarkozy. They will automatically kiss our rear ends when we unite for our cause.
@Ara
You have accurately described why the West/US should not be trusted by Armenia and the other way around. Being that Armenia is Russia’s strategic partner (thank God for that!) and maintains good ties with Iran, Armenia and the political West will simply be on opposite sides of a geostrategic divide. Therefore, any Armenian organization and/or individuals that maintains ties with the West and pushes a Western political agenda inside Armenia (e.g. PFA, Civilitas, Raffi Hovannisian, Vartan Oskanian, Richard Giragosian) should be rejected by Armenia…
Kerry sold his soul to the Devil for power and money what do you expect him to do? Only his masters will. Armenia should not join the EU, but stay in all with Russia only Russia. The part of Armenia that rely on Europe and the USA in 1915 is called Turkey today and there is no Armenian left there, only the part that was with Russia and under Russia remained and is stil called Armenia! Do not forget History!
Just what the hell has Kerry been smoking? This suggestion is incredulous! Kerry, you’ve made a complete fool of yourself — now go sit in the corner and SHUT UP. What ever happened to the ethics and morals we could always count on in this country?
