Baku Calls Armenia ‘Cancer’ of Region
BAKU—The head of the political analysis and information support department at the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, Elnur Aslanov, commenting on a recent statement by commander of the Russian military base in Armenia, Colonel Andrei Ruzinskiy, said, “Azerbaijan has never been so strong and independent, as President Ilham Aliyev has said repeatedly. Our republic possesses strong military potential and pursues an independent policy,” 1News.az reports.
Colonel Ruzinskiy last week stated that if Azerbaijan decides to impose jurisdiction over Nagorno-Karabakh by force, the Russian military base may enter the conflict in accordance with contractual obligations within the CSTO.
“In this case it is Azeri lands that have been occupied; over a million of our citizens have become refugees and internally displaced persons. We have never encroached and will never encroach on someone else’s land,” the official said, adding that in this case the issue is about “restoring jurisdiction” over Nagorno-Karabakh.
The official mentioned nothing about the record of human rights abuses in Karabakh under Azeri jurisdiction.
“If peaceful negotiations do not yield fruits, we are ready to use other methods to restore our legitimate jurisdiction over the territories of Azerbaijan in line with international law. And no one, even those people who voice statements contradicting the official stance of the countries they represent, will be able to stop us,” the official said.
Aslanov then accused the Armenian leadership of not being in favor of peace. Commenting on the prospective upcoming meeting between the Armenian and Azeri presidents, the official said, “I hope that after the meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents, the preparation of which was recently announced by the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Yerevan will be more decisive and constructive in the conduct of the negotiations on the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.”
“Armenia’s position, aimed at maintaining the status quo in the conflict, has turned it into a cancer of the region. This is compounded by the fact that the country is in deep crisis, including economic,” said Aslanov, calling Yerevan “irrational” and claiming that Armenia’s policies are “surprising” to the West and the East.
The article says “under Azeri jurisdiction.” But has it ever been under their jurisdiction? It was part of the Azerbaijani SSR, and that was not a country. Artsakh has never been part of the country of Azerbaijan that emerged after the collapse of the USSR. In other words, after the dissolution of the big empire, Artsakh has always been independent.
Good point
You are correct in principal. The fact of the matter is that, unlike the ancient kingdom of Armenia, the country of Azerbaijan has never existed in the history of mankind. It was invented and created in 1918 at the end of WWI. It is an artificial country at best. Its people are not unique. They are mostly Turkified ethnic Persians and Tatars who intermingled with invading Turkish tribes from Central Asia over the centuries and adopted the language of their Turkish masters. They share no common roots with the genocidal Turks other than being Turkish linguistically. This fabricated and artificial state is nothing more than a Turkish outpost in the South Caucasus for the Turkish Pan-Turkic adventurism and an oil-depot on the Caspian to be exploited by the selfish and corrupt Western World.
The ancient Armenian province of Artsakh, aka Karabakh, has always been an integral part of the Armenian homeland. Unfortunately and under the Soviet divide-and-rule policy, it was declared an autonomous region and placed administratively under the jurisdiction of the Azerbaijani SSR in 1921 within the Soviet Union. In other words, Karabakh has never been part of an independent Azerbaijan.
When the Soviet Union collapsed and the Soviet Empire came to an end in 1991, so did the 70-year illegal Azerbaijani SSR occupation of Karabakh. Of course the racist Azerbaijani authorities with their anti-Armenian fabricated lies would try to have you believe that 95% Armenian majority Karabakh, reduced to 75% by racist policies, was the cultural center of Azerbaijan. Not so at all. Using the hollow Azerbaijani twisted logic which claims formerly occupied Karabakh as Azerbaijani territory just because some Azeri poets and leaders were born there, I guess we Armenians can also claim parts of Baku, Moscow and many other places as Armenian territory because countless number of Armenian intellectuals, writers, poets and military leaders were born in these places.
The ancient Armenian province of Karabakh, today proudly turned the independent Armenian republic of Artsakh, is as Armenian as the 2,800 year-old ancient Armenian capital city of Yerevan. There would never have been a war if the racist and fascist anti-Armenian Azerbaijani criminals realized this simple fact but unfortunately the Armenians had to go to war, imposed by the artificial state of Azerbaijan, to make this reality official.
Karabakh was, is and will always be Armenian. Let the Azerbaijani dogs bark while the Armenian caravan moves on.
First of all,get UR facts straight R-tard Elnur Aslanov. Armenia defended her lands and people. Armenia is a peaceful country, and wants to maintain harmony with her neighbors. While begging for a land ,ARMENIA knows very well, It is assholes like your leader Aliyev elevates murderers to a hero status, continuous sniper attacks at the border resulting in Armenian soldier deaths and U have the nerve to mention peaceful negotiations…???? YOU LOST THE WAR !!!! Not an inch will be given, and whole world knows Azeris as close to a peace and harmony with ARMENIA as VLAD DRACULA to GOD.
………..“Azerbaijan has never been so strong and independent, as President Ilham Aliyev has said repeatedly” this shows how irrational has become the Azerbajani authorities to chalenge Russian Army with Russian made weapons, Oil money has made the government lose the compass of logic, they haven’t realized yet that they are like a mouse in a cage, should Georgia close it’s doors Azerbaijan will be in a worst situation than Armenia.
Axerbaijani corrupted oil Sheikhdom hiding the truth, that how Tsarists Russia separated Baku Kkanat from Iran’s Azerbaijan!! It is high time, Russia return the land back to Iran!!
