WIJK AAN ZEE, The Netherlands—Armenian Grandmaster Levon Aronian celebrated his win at the Tata Steel Chess Tournament, which was held in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. Aronian—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the previous World Team Chess champions, Armenia, and who is ranked second in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) ratings—tweeted the aforesaid with a photograph after his win.
“Celebrating my win in Tata Steel Chess 2014 with my Armenian friends who came from all over Europe to support me!!” the Armenian Grandmaster tweeted.
Levon Aronian was already a three-time winner (2007, 2008, and 2012) of the super tournament in Wijk aan Zee.
Last year, however, the Armenian Grandmaster finished the tournament in second place behind 2013 World Chess Champion, Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen of Norway, who is ranked first in the FIDE ratings.
