NORTHRIDGE—The Board of Regents of Prelacy Armenian Schools will be holding its 2015-2016 Annual Professional Development Day (APDD) conference on Saturday, January 23rd at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). The event, which has been taking place for over fifteen years, will be in cooperation with the university’s Armenian Studies Program and is expected to bring in over 450 educators from Armenian schools across the state.
The APDD conference is a yearly tradition that seeks to further advance professional development within educators by bringing together School Principals, Preschool Directors, teachers, and staff from not only the Prelacy Armenian schools, but most Armenian daily schools throughout the state of California. This year’s multifaceted program will include an array of dynamic instructional workshops on the most current educational, research-based teaching and learning advances, including the implementation of the National Common Core Standards. Professor Vahram Shemmassian, Director of the CSUN Armenian Studies Program, will deliver the keynote address.
“Creating and sustaining a supportive environment for our educators to learn from one another is absolutely essential to the Board of Regents and is exactly why we work so hard to make this conference a reality every year,” said the Board of Regents Chairwoman Lisa Gaboudian, who has served as the Director of Instruction in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). “This conference shows that we have educators from across the state who passionately serve Armenian students and are committed towards improving the quality of the classroom experience for their students; along with teaching the Armenian language and culture to the future generation.”
The 2015-2016 Annual Professional Development Day, organized by the Board of Regents of Prelacy Armenian Schools and sponsored by the CSUN Armenian Studies Department, will serve as a valuable opportunity for educators from various Armenian schools to articulate with one another and share their successes and challenges in order to better serve the needs of Armenian students.
