According to Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Major General Artak Davtyan, the situation on the Nakhichevan section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is under control.
“The situation is controllable, normal work is underway. There is nothing to worry about. I don’t see the need for further comments,” Davtyan said during the military’s summer conscription on July 2.
One day earlier, on July 1, the Armenian defense ministry said that the Azerbaijani army attempted to reinforce outposts near the Nakhichevan border. The Armenian army responded with gunfire, which led to the total destruction of an Azerbaijani position. One Armenian soldier suffered minor wounds during the firefight.
Regarding the escalation of tensions on the Artsakh-Azerbaijan line of contact and the military parade in Baku, Davtyan said these concerns are nothing new.
“I don’t see anything special here,” he said. “We follow their drills, we are ready for any developments.”
Davtyan added that the Armenian army plans to acquire new weaponry.
“We have already received one part of the weapons, the other part is in process. If needed, information about all new weapons will be provided to the public,” Davtyan said.
During the summer conscription, new soldiers were enlisted into the Armed Forces of Armenia. The conscription process is being supervised by the defense ministry, the general staff and law enforcement agencies.
In a statement, the defense ministry wished “Peaceful service to the defenders of the country.”
Nothing will ever happen in Nakhichevan without Russian political and military cover. Turkey has already bound itself to protecting Azerbaijan in the event of war ever breaking out there. Essentially, Turkey has painted itself into a corner and has no place to go. Putin is playing footsie with Erdogan and the Azeri’s are simply posturing for domestic consumption. Armenians, on the other hand, keep on dreaming of some Russian grandeur prospects.
“If needed, information about all new weapons will be provided to the public,” Davtyan said”…..IF NEEDED?? Not only the public, but the whole world should know what we have!! What good is it to have them if your enemies don’t know you poses equal or greater countering lethal weapons also??
In a statement, the defense ministry wished “Peaceful service to the defenders of the country.”……WHAT?? So the message to our enemies is that we will never be an offensive force. We’re only sitting victims waiting to defend ourselves. An army is to be a force that projects intimidation and courage. Not hoping for “Peaceful” service to unemployed young men! This is the worst thing that a fighting force can project. Displaying of weapons and fighting attitude are much more meaningful than merely showing off a few soldiers looking through binoculars. Ever heard of military parades??
A good Poker player is the one who keeps cool without giving signals on the hand he has, trust me next time around Baku will lament for not having signed peace with Armenia.
We believe in our brothers in Armenia
