The Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that the Russian peacekeeping contingent continues to fulfill its obligations in Nagorno-Karabakh, adding negotiations continue to ensure unimpeded traffic on the Stepanakert-Goris road—the Lachin Corridor.
“The Russian peacekeepers continues the negotiation process with the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides regarding the resumption of the unhindered movement of automobile transport along the Stepanakert-Goris road,” said the Russian Defense Ministry, which added that the troops stationed in Artsakh also conduct “round-the-clock monitoring of the situation in 30 observation posts.”
The Russian peacekeeping units in Artsakh on Wednesday also held training exercises as part of their combat-readiness plan, according to a social media post.
This announcement comes after the days of protests by a group of Artsakh residents who have approached the peacekeeping checkpoint to demand that the forces fulfill their obligations outlined in the November 9, 2020 agreement and open the Lachin Corridor.
Hundreds of Artsakh residents marched to the Stepanakert Airport on Tuesday and vowed to remain there until the commander of the peacekeeping contingent, Major-General Andrey Volvo, meets with them and hears their demands.
