Students representing Armenia won three bronze medals at the 17th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event, which was held from August 17 to 27, featured 232 students from 53 countries. Each country was represented by, at most, five students.
The Armenian team was represented by four students from the Artashes Shahinyan Physics-Mathematics School, including 12th grader Arsen Aghayan, and 11th graders Narek Galstyan, Gor Hasratyan, and Emil Musheghyan. Aghayan, Hasratyan and Musheghyan won bronze medals, while Galstyan was awarded a certificate of commendation at the event.


The students from Armenia were led by Hrant Topchyan, a researcher at Yerevan Institute of Physics, and Karen Baghdasaryan, a software engineer and Yerevan State University alumnus.
In 2023, Team Armenian won a silver and bronze medal at the 16th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics.
