The Public is Invited to Attend an Artist Reception on January 11
GLENDALE—Glendale Arts will present a solo exhibition from painter and sculptor Arshak Nazarian at ace/121 Gallery. The show, featuring a series of brand-new and recently completed conceptual, abstract paintings, will be on view from January 11 to February 8.
An Artist Reception opening the gallery’s first exhibition of the year will be held on Saturday, January 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.
Among the paintings featured in the exhibition are three exclusive, never-before-seen works titled “Cyber T,” “Light,” and “One,” all of which encapsulate Nazarian’s signature exploration of color collisions.
“The color scheme of my paintings has an associative foundation,” explains Nazarian. ”The proportional movement of the two color masses which progress towards each other from opposite ends of the canvas, cause the viewers to focus their attention to the impact line, where the masses collide. The main concept of my artwork is collision and its consequences. The outcome – when order is disturbed – is of great interest to me, both visually and philosophically. The controversy that takes place as the color masses collide represents how contradiction puts life into motion.”
Nazarian, a contemporary artist originally from Yerevan, Armenia, inherited his love for fine arts from his father, renowned Armenian sculptor Suren Nazaryan, and studied sculpture at the Terlemezyan Fine Arts School and the State Fine Arts & Theatre Institute. Early in his career, he exhibited widely in Armenia, Russia, Lithuania, and Sudan, eventually relocating to the United States in 1992. Since then, the Glendale-based artist has showcased his work in galleries across the US, Europe, and South America. Nazarian’s work is held in private collections and museums worldwide.
“We are thrilled to host Arshak Nazarian’s first exhibition of the year at ace/121 Gallery,” said Glendale Arts CEO Nina Crowe. “This show is especially exciting because it includes three never-before-seen paintings that will be unveiled exclusively for visitors to experience for the first time.”
