Captain Juergen Klinsmann scored two second-half goals Wednesday to lift Germany to a 4-0 victory over Armenia in a World Cup ’98 soccer qualifier match in Dortmund–Germany.
Klinsmann’s first goal came in the 70th minute of the second half–followed by a second strike in the 84th minute to seal Germany’s Group 9 victory.
With the win–Armenia fell to 1-3-5 overall in Group 9 play–and is currently in fourth place with 8 points behind Portugal–second-place Ukraine and leader Germany–which is still unbeaten in World Cup qualifier play with a 5-0-4 record and 18 points.
Armenia will next play Ukraine on Oct. 11–which was in first place with a record of 5-2-2 and 17 points before Germany’s victory.
Armenia leads Northern Ireland and Albania in Group 9–thanks to a 3-0 victory over Northern Ireland earlier in the week.
