BAKU ("Azg" daily – ITAR-TASS)–Russian Foreign Minister Yevgeni Primakov reported Wednesday that his recent meeting with Azeri President Gaidar Aliyev was "useful and interesting," and that the two discussed–among other things–Russian-Azeri relations–and the conflict in Nagorno- Karabakh.
Primakov didn’t conceal the fact that problems exist between Russia and Azerbaijan–but that proposed peace and economic agreemen’s should be signed in order the guarantee security in the region.
Primakov stressed that Russia viewed Azerbaijan as an important country in its foreign policy.
"The relations between our two countries should develop–and there are no objective obstacles to this," the Foreign Minister declared.
Speaking of the Karabakh conflict–Primakov expressed his satisfaction that Azerbaijan was positive regarding recent proposals by OSCE co-chairmen. He said he believed the conflict should be resolved under the provision of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
