YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–In an interview with "Hayots Ashkhar," Albert Bazeyan–chairman of the parliamentary faction of the Yerkrapah battalion–reported that Yerkrapah was unable to convince Defense Minister Vazgen Sargssian to join the running for president.
According to Bazeyan–there are several reasons for which the defense minister is unwilling to run for the said office. First–Sargssian’s priorities lie with the army–the strengthening of which he views as his responsibility. Second–since the Yerkrapah has been repeatedly accused of being power hungry–the organization has to maintain a low profile in this race for office. And finally–it is possible that Sargssian’s nomination might be viewed negatively in the international community which might assume that the party of war has come to power in Armenia.
