YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President Jacques Chirac of France addressed a telegram of congratulation to his Armenian counterpart Robert Kocharian on the occasion of Armenia’s Independence Day.
"This festival–which symbolizes the regained independence of the ancient and respectable nation–evoked a special response in our country as our two nations have had ties throughout recorded history," said the French president in the message.
Messages of congratulation on the occasion were also received from Turkmen President Saparmurad Niyazov–King of Spain Juan Carlos–King of Sweden Karl Gustav–President Olafur Raznar Grimson of Iceland–President Marti Antisaari–Emir of Kuwait Al Ahmad al-Saba and others.
