YEREVAN (Azat Or)–During a meeting Friday with President Robert Kocharian–representatives of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and the Armenian Democratic League (Ramkavar Party) of Greece presented a $300,000 check to the president to be used in the reconstruction of the earthquake zone.
Koko Ertchanian and Gegham Yaghdjian of the ARF and Zaven Krikorian and Hovaness Tchoulakian of the ADL met with the president who stressed the important place the reconstruction of the earthquake zone has in Armenia’s domestic agenda.
Kocharian thanked the Greek-Armenian representatives for their generosity.
The $300,000 is the remainder of the $1 million raised by the Greek-Armenian community for earthquake efforts.
Between 1989 and 1993–$330,000 was allocated for the dispatch of powdered milk to Armenia–$230,000 was spent on the purchase of cement block production machine and $28,000 was spend on the dispatch of food–medicine–clothes and other humanitarian needs.
A day after presenting the amount to the president–the delegation went to Lori–in the earthquake zone–and visited ravaged areas.
