ANKARA (Turkish Daily News)– German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer said that Turkey should be offered the prospect of full membership to the European Union–the Anatolia news agency reported.
Speaking at a press conference in Bonn on Tuesday–Fischer said that Turkey should mend its rifts with Greece. He also added that a solution to the Cyprus issue should be found.
The Copenhagen Criteria–Fischer stated–are as valid for Turkey as for the other EU countries. "Human rights is important for us," he was quoted as saying.
The German foreign minister said that his country has had a "historic relationship" with Turkey.
