YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A humanitarian program was launched in Nagorno Karabakh in 1998 with the financial assistance of the USAID and direct control of the Armenian Office of the Save the Children humanitarian organization.
Michel Lipner–Director of the Armenia-based Office of the Save the Children organization–said the total cost of the program is $8 million; the program is meant for two years and is due for completion in 2000. Attention is focused on war-damaged areas where it is planned to repair houses–improve water sanitation–create new jobs.
