YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–At his meeting with directors of industrial enterprises in the Gegharkunik region–Minister of Industry and Trade Haik Gevorgian said that the centralization of similar production processes would make it possible to reduce the cost of production by 15-20 percent. According to him–the market relations also necessitate switching over to the locally procurable raw materials and domestic methods of production as well as manufacturing products which would oust the identical products of foreign make.
Gevorgian stressed the importance for re-starting the instrument-making enterprises in Armenia turning out products competitive on the foreign market. As for the enterprises that will not be able to operate in their specialization any more–the minister said that a non-standard approach should be taken to them; for instance their territory may be placed at the disposal of businessmen.
The minister pointed out the need for establishing a local structure of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in the Gegharkunik region. It should be noted that out of the 50 industrial enterprises in the Gegharkunik region only a few are operating.
