MONTREAL–June 3 was a historical day for the Montreal Armenian community–as the board of trustees of St. Hagop Church signed an agreement with Commission Scolaire de Montreal (CSDM) to purchase the St. Hagop Armenian School building. Twenty-nine years and a few relocations later–dreams to finally own a school building finally became a reality. After lengthy and arduous negotiations with CSDM–the most favorable purchase conditions were achieved for the building that houses Sarafian Elementary School and Pastermadjian Secondary School.
The next step to modernize and remodel the building will begin this summer; a building committee formed by the board of trustees will oversee the project. Renovations will span a period of five years–this year being the most crucial.
The board of trustees conveys heartfelt appreciation to benefactors–donors and community members who made it all possible with their undying conviction.
A special note of gratitude goes to the ARF Mihran Papazian Gomideh–the Armenian National Committee and all sister organizations for the support.
