YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Speaker of Armenian Parliament Arthur Baghdasarian met Wednesday with the newly appointed head of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Armenia office–Ambassador Michael Wygant.
The two discussed current relations between the Parliament and the OSCE Armenia office and the possibility of increased cooperation. Wygant stressed the importance of Parliament’s creation of an ombudsman institution–adoption of a law on alternative military service–and the completion and implementation of Electoral Code reforms. He also expressed OSCE’s readiness to assist Parliament.
Wygant and Baghdasarian agreed to hold discussions with OSCE experts in September and October to discuss a number of urgent draft bills–and affirmed the necessity of increasing cooperation between the OSCE and Armenian Parliament in order to further develop the rule of law.
