
YEREVAN (Yerkir)–"From Memory to Memorializing," an international conference dedicated to the nation’s historical memory and conservation of cultural heritage will be held in Yerevan between November 27 and 28. The event will be mark the 40th anniversary of the Memorial’s construction.
Hayk Demoyan, director of the Institute-Museum of the Armenian Genocide, Amatuni Virabyan, director of the National Archive, scholars Levon Abrahamyan, Suren Manukyan and others will address the conference, reported Arevik Avetisyan, a spokesperson for the Institute-Museum of Armenian Genocide.
The decision to build the Memorial was taken in 1965 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Architects Artur Tarkhanyan and Sashur Kalashyan won the tender. The opening ceremony took place November 19, 1967.
