YEREVAN (Armenpress)–President Serzh Sarkisian Monday met with the European Union’s special representative to the South Caucasus, Peter Semneby, for talks on European Armenian relations and current developmen’s in the South Caucasus.
“The South Caucasus is of great importance to the European Union,” Semneby said, noting that Sarkisian’s upcoming visit to Brussels will allow Armenia and the EU to work out a common agenda for regional partnership.
Sarkisian, for his part, praised EU-Armenian relations, saying Armenia’seeks an expansion of relations with the EU.
Semneby praised Armenia’s diplomatic overtures to Turkey, saying that the EU will support the initiative to open the border between Armenia and Turkey, as it will benefit both countries.
He also reiterated the EU’s support for the OSCE Minsk Group’s efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,
Peter Semneby declared also that the EU supports the activity of the Minsk Group and aspires to convince the conflicting parties to reach an agreement.
