BAKU (Today.az)–Israel’s Foreign Minister Tsipi Livni on Monday praised her country’s growing ties with Azerbaijan, describing the country as a “peace loving” state.
“Israel and Azerbaijan maintain friendly relations. Azerbaijan is a peace-loving modern Moslem state and Israel considers it important to maintain good and friendly relations with it,” Livni said during an interview published Monday with Azerbaijan’s Today.az. “Azerbaijan and Israel have developed commercial ties, especially in the energy sphere. We are glad to see that these relations are developing and we hope that this will further continue.”

Responding to questions about the so-called Jewish Eurasian council’s support of Azerbaijan’s claims in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Livni described as %u218friendly’ her country’s relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan, welcoming the Moscow declaration as a sign of “possible progress” in the negotiation process.
“Israel is watching the continuing dispute on Nagorno Karabakh with regret,” she said. “We welcome the resumption of talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia and are ready to see the achievemen’s of the past few weeks, which prove possible progress in the process of peaceful settlement.”
She also said that Israel supports the opening of an Azerbaijani embassy in Israel and would welcome the Azerbaijani ambassador to Israel.
