To the Editor,
I wept when I read “Struggle for the Fate of a Nation” (Asbarez 6/1/09 Allen Yekikian). My father was one of those volunteers who fought in the Battle of Gharakilisé for the salvation of our people. I am very fortunate in having his comprehensive accounting of the events. My father documented daily events from 1915 to 1922 as they were happening. As a result, I know the exact route of the death caravan my people were in, and had the good fortune of following it last year, casting flower seeds along the route, in their memory. After his escape from the death caravan, my father fought until 1922 for the salvation of our people under men like Antranik, Tehlerian, Sarkissian, etc. I am honoured to have hundreds of pages of his eye witness account of this entire period of genocidal terror, recorded by him as events unfolded.
