LITTLE ARMENIA–Raffi Kiureghian, a recent graduate from Webb High School in Claremont, has been working for the past two weeks as an intern for the English section of Asbarez.
As a semi-experienced journalist, Kiureghian is working with the Staff to edit articles regarding Armenian current events, and then posting said articles on the Asbarez website.
“This is an enormous opportunity for me to see two of my passions—journalism and Armenia—coalesce,” said Kiureghian. “It fascinates me to think that each of these articles is contributing in some minute way to an overall awareness of Armenian issues and current events.”
Kiureghian is an incoming freshman to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. With a profound love for the written word and aspirations to major in English Literature, he nonetheless has always been ardent about his Armenian cultural background.
Despite not having any Armenian organizations or clubs at his high school, Kiureghian continually informed his peers of Armenian issues, particularly during his end-of-year senior speech.
“The staff here is unlike anything I’d imagined,” he said. “They are a family, and have truly treated me like one of their own—including me at all times and always stopping by my station to say hello in the morning.”
