ANKARA (Anatolia)—Russia’s recent cancellation of a regulation against Turkish exporters is being perceived as a move to restore trade between the two countries, a Turkish state minister said Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Russian authorities annulled the regulation requiring the full inspection of Turkish goods at customs gates, State Minister Hayati Yaz?c? said. Russia had placed strict barriers against Turkish exporters in August 2008. The implementation of those rules, combined with the impact of the global economic crisis, has caused Turkey’s exports to Russia to fall by 58 percent this year.
The problem was resolved when Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin visited Turkey early this month. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdo?an met Putin on Aug. 6 and the two leaders inked a deal to lift restrictions on trade.
