TEHRAN (Trend.az)—Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) has signed a short-term contract with the National Iranian Gas Export Company (NIGEC )to sell natural gas to Iran, reported the Azeri Trend news agency on Wednesday.
The deal, which commits Azerbaijan to shipping an average at 1.2 million cubic meters of gas a day to Northern Iran until April 2010, was signed Wednesday by SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev and NIGEC Managing Director Seyed Reza Kasaeizadeh following talks held in Baku.
The gas will ship through the 1474 km Kazi-Magomed-Astara pipeline, which has a capacity to transit 10 billion cubic meters of gas a year.
