BAKU (News.az)–Azerbaijan categorically condemned on Friday the adoption of the Armenian Genocide resolution by the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee and threatened to recall its ambassador in Washington, reported News.az.
“History has shown that Azerbaijan has always taken the most correct and timely decision in an emotional state. I therefore consider it necessary to recall our ambassador to the United States for consultations, said Zahid Oruj, a parliament deputy from the pro-government Motherland party during the plenary session of the Milli Mejlis on Friday.
“The United States has failed to appoint its ambassador to Azerbaijan for already half a year. This fact does not prove friendly attitude of Washington to our country,” he said. “The absence of the US ambassador has numerous subtexts, both political and pursuing the plans to impose pressure on our country.”
According to another member of parliament, Gudrat Hasanquliyev, the resolution is also connected with “the fact that the United States is working in the direction of the opening of the Armenian-Turkish borders.”
Meanwhile, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elkhan Polukhov told the Trend News agency that the “biased decision of the U.S. House of Representatives committee on foreign affairs causes a feeling of regret.”
“If this process continues, it could bring harms to measures to restore stability and security in the region, including the tense negotiations on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” Polukhov said.
“Instead of making such subjective decisions, it would be better if the same Congress would find the courage and assess the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan, which began 20 years ago, the crimes committed against Azerbaijanis through the occupation and ethnic cleansing, expelling million refugees and internally displaced persons from their homes,” said the Foreign Ministry spokesman.
“All these events have been proven in the international community, and living witnesses are still waiting for justice. I hope that the decision of the committee on foreign affairs will not gain support in Congress and it will not be adopted,” said Polukhov.
The Azerbaijan Presidential Administration Socio-Political Department Head Ali Hasanov also told reporters that
“Such a step by the U.S congressmen is mistaken and unfair,”
Hasanov said that the government condemns this step by the committee and “brings to attention that this decision was unilateral, unjust, pro-Armenian and anti-Turk in spirit.”
“We believe this decision also does not correlate strongly with the interests of the United States and the American people, and seriously damages the international image of this country,” he added.
How dare Turkey and Azerbaijan critisize the American Government.
Why is the United States so quiet about all the criticism that has been thrown at them? It seems the Turks and Azeris are running all the shows in America.
