ENCINO, CA—On May 27, 2010, Tonya Barseghian and Talar Dardarian, were elected to the Encino Neighborhood Council (ENC). In October 2002, the ENC became the designated body, certified by the City of Los Angeles, to make city services more accessible and responsive to the Encino community.
Tonya Barseghian was re-elected as the Public Safety Representative for a two-year term as a write-in candidate; she has held this position since 2008. Barseghian, in cooperation with the Los Angeles Fire Department, recently organized Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), a neighborhood disaster preparedness program which teaches emergency skills and trains for hazards. Barseghian is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, where she received a B.A. in English Literature. Her future plans include pursuing a career in law.
Talar Dardarian is a graduate of California State University, Northridge, where she pursued a degree in Business Marketing. Currently, Dardarian works at Wells Fargo Bank as an Operations Manager. Dardarian was elected Planning and Land Use Representative to the ENC. She looks forward to contributing to the betterment and well-being of the Encino community.
“The involvement of members such as Barseghian and Dardarian is vital because they help the ENC adequately represent the interests of the greater Encino community,” remarked Armenian National Committee of America-San Fernando Valley-West (ANCA-SFV-West) Chapter activist and former North Hills Neighborhood Council member, Nichan Kulukian.
ANCA-SFV-West Chapter Chairman, Nareg S. Kitsinian, Esq., added, “Serving on the ENC is a rewarding experience. I congratulate both Barseghian and Dardarian on their respective victories and look forward to working with them on many important issues facing Encino.”
The ENC is a volunteer council which is elected by stakeholders of Encino. The ENC has committees involved with community projects such as Transportation (Traffic), Airport, Parks, Education, Outreach, Finance, Public Safety, Planning and Land Use, as well as, Bylaws and Elections. The ENC meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Encino Community Center located at 4935 Balboa Boulevard.
The Armenian National Committee of America-San Fernando Valley-West Chapter is a grassroots, advocacy organization advancing issues of concern to the area’s Armenian American community as well as promoting the community’s civic engagement at the local, state, and federal level.
