LITTLE ARMENIA—The Armenian National Committee of America Hollywood Chapter is hosting its first ever “Movie Night” on Friday, September 2 at 6:30 p.m.in the recently opened Armenian Youth Center in Hollywood (1559 North Kenmore Street).
The event will feature a screening of the 2008 film “Float” which was written and directed by Johnny Asuncion and produced by Hrach Titizian. Both are featured actors in the film along with Ken Davitian. Admission to the event is free and a light dinner as well as ice cream will be served.
“The evening will feature delicious food and a hilarious film about Los Angeles and life in which the Armenian community plays a leading role,” said ANCA Hollywood Chairman Paul Seradarian. “We welcome the community – students, friends, and family – to join us for what should be a very fun evening.”
Those attending the event will be welcomed by Seradarian as well as ANCA-Western Region Executive Director William Bairamian. The ANCA Hollywood team also looks to provide an opportunity for high school and college students to get together while introducing them to various internship and volunteer opportunities offered by the ANCA, the nation’s largest grassroots organization dedicated to participation in the American political process and advancing issues of concern to the Armenian community.
“Growing up I was not aware that such a network of Armenian organizations were present in the community, so I want to reach out and open the ANCA Hollywood’s doors to those who are interested in getting more involved in the community, both at a political and personal level,” noted Tereza Yerimyan, a Board Member with ANCA Hollywood.
Yerimyan just completed an 8-week internship program in Washington, DC with the ANCA during which she worked on current issues while being part of the action in the nation’s capital. Yerimyan was a former intern and part-time staff member with the ANCA-Western Region and has for the past two years been an active member with the ANCA Hollywood. She is currently completing her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles.
“I was totally excited when I was introduced to the ANCA Hollywood,” said newly active member and high school senior Maria Martirosyan. “I hope to see a lot of my friends and fellow Hollywood Armenians come out to the movie night but also stay involved with the ANCA Hollywood in the months to come.”
The ANCA Hollywood Chapter promotes greater understanding of issues of concern to the area’s Armenian American community and strives to increase Armenian American civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels.
