STEPANAKERT (Armenpress)– Armenian National Committee (ANC) representatives who gathered in Yerevan from around twenty countries for the ANC World Summit May 6 and 7–traveled to Mountainous Karabagh Republic (MKR) to attend ceremonies celebrating the 11th anniversary of the liberation of the strategic town of Shushi.
The ANC vowed to the leadership of (MKR) to continue its support to the people of MKR in seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict with Azerbaijan.
Speaking to the group–MKR president Arkady Ghoukassian conveyed that the current status of the republic–which is not recognized internationally–poses serious obstacles for development–particularly because MKR does not qualify to receive loans from international lending organizations.
"Despite this–Karabagh authorities are doing what they can to rebuild the economy that was seriously damaged as a result of the war with Azerbaijan in early the 90’s," he said.
Ghoukassian also mentioned that greater involvement by the Armenian Diaspora in rebuilding Karabagh is vital.
