GLENDALE – Anush Petrosyan recently began her summer internship at the Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region. The program will last ten weeks, during which interns will gain an understanding of the ANCA-WR’s affairs concerning advocacy and the political process.
Petrosyan is an international relations student at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). She transferred there from Glendale Community College, where she was involved in the Associated Students, which is the official student government organization on campus. As a representative of the student body, she attended college governance committees representing the voice of the students regarding changes affecting them.
Her interests induced her to join and take on leadership positions in various organizations and seek internships. She took action by becoming part of Unified Young Armenians (UYA) for two years where she worked extensively by encouraging Armenians to donate and participate in the annual Armenian Genocide march.
Furthermore, she spent the summer of 2010 in Armenia interning with the Armenian Assembly of America through Birthright Armenia. She interned at the Ministry of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia.
“Initially, I was hesitant about the expectations of the internship; however, the uneasiness vanished, after the Deputy Minister and his staff welcomed me. It is difficult to imagine the work required to coordinate the various Diasporas worldwide with Armenia,” said Petrosyan. While interning at the ministry, she joined the United Nations Association of Armenia (AUNA), where she had the opportunity to participate in several conferences of the United Nations of Armenia.
Petrosyan has been excited about spending her summer with the ANCA-WR internship in Glendale. “I am looking forward to this excellent opportunity to work alongside active and talented individuals by contributing to a common cause,” she added.
The ANCA-WR Internship Program is an opportunity for youth to get involved in Armenian advocacy on the regional and national levels.
The Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region is the largest and most influential Armenian American grassroots advocacy organization in the Western United States. Working in coordination with a network of offices, chapters, and supporters throughout the Western United States and affiliated organizations around the country, the ANCA-WR advances the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of issues.
