GLENDALE— To ensure that the two major political parties reflect the demographic composition of their constituency, the Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region is urging California Armenians registered as Democrats to participate in this weekend’s delegate elections and elect individuals who can best represent their views within the Democratic Party. The ANCA-WR also encourages Armenian-Americans to get involved in Republican Party building activities as well, when those opportunities present themselves.
“Armenians, like all Americans, should be civically engaged, vote during elections and participate in the foundation that makes America great: Democracy” said Haig Hovsepian, Government Affairs Director at the ANCA-WR.
The Assembly District Committee elections will take place in every Assembly District in California and each district will elect six (6) male and six (6) female delegates. Armenian Americans are running for delegate positions in 7 Assembly Districts. To vote, you must be a registered Democrat in that Assembly District and must pay $5 (unless it’s a financial hardship)
Elections will be on Saturday or Sunday. Information about location, date and time can be found below.
The largest number of Armenian-American candidates will be in the Glendale/Burbank based 43rd Assembly District. Candidates in the 43rd AD elections include: Armond Aghakhanian, Berdj Karapetian, Michael Kiaman, Juliette Minassian, Nayiri Nahabedian and Adrin Nazarian.
Candidates in the other Assembly Districts include: Richard Gatchalian (11th AD), Arsine Ansryan (39th AD), Karo Torossian (39th AD), Levon Kirakosian (44th AD), Varo Asorian (53rd AD), Paul Naccachian (57th AD), Murad Minassian (58th AD).
The Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region is the largest Armenian American grassroots advocacy organization which advances the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of issues.
