YEREVAN (Combined Sources)–Anush and Inga Arshakyans will represent Armenia in the finals of the Eurovision 2009 song contest on Saturday, May 16. The two sisters performed their hit song “Jan-Jan” at in Moscow’s Olimpiisky indoor Arena.
‘Jan-Jan’ is a mixture of ethno motifs and modern rhythms. The song was voted among the top ten of 18 participating countries, earning them the right to advance to the final round of the competition on Saturday.
The ten finalists were selected by an SMS voting with one being chosen by an international jury. Sweden, Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Malta, Iceland, Finland, Turkey, Portugal, Romania also progressed to the finals.
Tuesday’s seminal, watched by millions of viewers across Europe, was broadcast live in Armenia and made available for viewing for the worldwide Armenian Diaspora by Armenian Public Television.
The second semifinal to decide another ten participants to join last year’s winner Russia as well as the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Spain in the finals will be held on May 14.
This is the fourth time Armenia is sendings its representative to this annual contest. Andre in 2006 and Hayko in 2007 earned Armenia eighth place, and Sirusho last year finished just outside the top three.
