BEIRUT–His Holiness Aram I–Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia in a meeting with newly-elected Lebanese President Emil Lahoud Tuesday–congratulated the President on his election to the highest elected offices of that country.
The Catholicos–who was accompanied to the official meeting by Lebanese Prelate Right Reverend Kegham Khacherian–Catholicosate Central Executive Council member Andre Tabourian–Lebanon Executive Council chairperson Dr. Garbis Hairboian and Scepter Bearer Deacon Vruir Demirjian–met with Lahoud at the presidential palace.
Aram I congratulated President Lahoud on his new position and pledged his personal and the Catholicosate’s support–noting that the strengthening of ethnic relations–economic growth–and the enforcement of civil law and order must be high priorities for the president.
President Lahoud in turn congratulate the Catholicos for his reelection to his post as the Chairperson of the World Council of Churches–emphasizing that the Catholicos’ position will serve well in his work on the international stage–as well as in representing Lebanon and the entire Arab world.
In addition–the two leaders spoke about several domestic issues and policy directions.
