Archbishop Kegham Katcherian was elected as the new Western Prelate when a special National Representatives Assembly of the Western Prelacy convened on Friday at the Holy Martyrs Church’s Avedissian Hall in Encino.
In a unanimous vote, the delegates of the National Representative Assembly requested that Archbishop Torkom Donoyan continue to serve as Western Prelate. However, Donoyan asked that his name be withdrawn from the nomination.
In a secret ballot, Archbishop Kegham Khatcherian was elected the new Prelate of the Western Prelacy with 27 votes, while Very Rev. Muron Anikian received seven votes and there were six abstentions.
Prelate Donoyan, on behalf of the Western Prelacy, expressed his congratulations and pledged his full support to the newly elected Prelate, wishing him success.
The newly elected Prelate will arrive in Los Angeles on Thursday, April 25th.
A message by His Holiness Catholicos Aram I received a standing ovation by the delegates and participants of the meeting.
