MOSCOW (ARF Press Service)–The Armenian Revolutionary Federation participated last week in a conference entitled “Propaganda Wars in Modern Times” attended by members of the Russian Duma, the Federated Council, international and Russian experts, as well as members of the press at the newly-established “Fair World” institute.
In his presentation, the ARF representative and Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee of Russia Yura Navoyan said that technological advances demonstrate that information wars not only can play a complimentary role as a tactical move, but also become a strategic element in directly impacting the international political reality.
Armenia, Navoyan explained, is located at a nexus of geopolitical competition, which is being guided by misinformation.
Navoyan also said that special emphasis was being placed recently on information security issues, in an effort to create a necessary structure for unresolved conflicts.
He used the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as an example to illustrate the information war being waged against Armenia and Karabakh, with the right to self-determination of the people of Karabakh being jeopardized through misinformation and false propaganda. He also pointed to misinformation tactics being used by Turkey to thwart efforts to attain international recognition of the Genocide.
The conference began with welcoming remarks by the chairman of the Russian Federated Council (upper house) and president of the “Just Russia” party and the “Fair World” institute Sergey Mironov.
In his remarks he stated that with the recent developmen’s in the Caucasus, the international community is on the brink of a new world order, which requires the adoption of new principles toward unresolved conflicts. As such the individuals’ information security become a priority and the imperative to counter misinformation have gained new momentum.
He also highlighted the urgency for the creation of a new structure for international security.
The conference concluded that while the subject of propaganda wars is not novel concept, however the subject requires new attention with 21st Century solutions.
