YEREVAN (Armenpress)—Armenian will deploy forty peacekeepers to Afghanistan in February 2010 to take part in the NATO-led war against the Taliban, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian told Armenpress on Thursday.
Ohanian late last week traveled to Slovakia’s capital Bratislava to attend a high-level NATO conference on Afghanistan where ministers from the North Atlantic alliance discussed the future of the multinational mission and, in particular, the new U.S. strategy of combating the Taliban insurgency.
According to Ohanian, the Armenian contingent will serve within the German platoon.
He said the NATO mission will supplement Armenia’s ongoing commitment to peacekeeping operations in Kosovo, which has been ongoing since February 2004.
