LONDON—Greco-Roman wrestler Arthur Aleksanyan won a bronze medal in the 96kg category on Tuesday, securing a third medal to Armenia.
Aleksanyan snatched the bronze medal after defeating Cuban Yunior Estrada Falcon.
Aleksanyan earlier defeated the Turkey’s Cenk Ildem in his first tournament for the bronze medal.
The 6’1’’ wrestler was born in Gyumri in 1991 and was trained by his father, Gevorg Aleksanyan.
This win makes three for Armenia. On Sunday, Armenia’s Arsen Julfalakian won silver in the 74kg category of Greco-Roman wrestling at the Olympics. Earlier the same day, Hripsime Khurshudyan secured a bronze medal for Armenia in the women’s +75kg weightlifting competition.

And just for the record, Arthur was wrestling the last 2 fights with brocken rib, according to his father’s interview. He is strong not just by his body, but also by his spirit…
For such a small country, admittedly an amazing achievement thus far. Of course the “mainstream” media would never admit to such facts. Armenia is “the little country that could” whether they like it or not.
I pray that in the next Olympics, Armenia make an even bigger impression and win gold medals as well. Organizations like the AGBU should help promote sports so that more Armenians can have opportunities to show their talents. I never saw Armenians also doing the little known sports like rowing, archery, badminton, table tennis, track and field etc, these should also be popularized in addition to weight lifting and judo and wrestling and boxing. I bet there are a lot of Armenians in Armenia who have the talent to be in the Olympics today but are denied the means or opportunity. I hope this changes.

Thank you Kevork, you really expressed whatever we think of, we too noticed there is nothing shown on TV screens when Armenians are involvedd, it is very frustrating that we feel its mere descrimination, at least Canadadian CBC mentioning little more about our winners but still not satisfying as some unknown little countries showing with wider information. I think our HOMENETMEN plus other organizations athelete board of directors should discuss tis vital matter with our country Armenia lets make our Armenian TV stations from Los Angeles where majority or we, diasporan Armenians financially help Armenia to have a united TV station at least during Olympic or any worldwide sports taking place from all over the world coming together. I think we should struggle for even sports that Turkey & their affiliate rich countries make every attempt to disrespect and deny viewing sports which should be fair for every country’s athletes without taking side of specific countries only.
