YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenia’s leadership visited the Yerablur national cemetery in Yerevan Sunday to honor the legacy of Armenia’s fallen heroes, who died defending the Armenian people’s right to self determination in 1918 and the early 90s.
Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian, Karabakh President Bako Sahakian, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, Secretary General of the Armenian National Security Council Arthur Baghdasarian, Chairman of the Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunian and other officials visited Yerablur where they placed a ceremonial wreath at the monument dedicated to the freedom fighters killed during the Karabakh Movement.
"Independence is an exclusive value which gives us an opportunity to ensure, not only the security of our country, but also the ability to develop it,” Sahakian said in his remarks during the ceremony. “During these years we have experienced deprivations and many losses, we have overcome difficulties, but in return we have our independent statehood, independent Armenia. Luckily, today we have all prerequisites to double our success and achievemen’s.”
“By visiting Yerablur we pay tribute to the people who sacrificed for our independent statehood. On this we must all remember them and pay tribute to their memory,” Prime Minister Sargsyan said.
According to Sargsyan, Independence Day is an opportunity to evaluate the past 17 years and look to the future.
