While in Armenia on a working trip in May–Armenian Relief Society Central Executive chairperson Vanouhi Isadjanian and secretary Arpi Charkhoudian–accompanied with Armenian Relief Cross chairperson Alvart Bedrossian–were invited to meet Ardashes Bedrossian–Minister of Science and Education.
During the meeting Ardashes Bedrossian described in detail the unfavorable conditions existing within the Armenian educational system today. Neither the public nor the national budget has the resources to purchase books.
The Armenian Relief Society has pledged to donate half of the $107,000 project for the publication of school books. This humanitarian act was recognized at a recent Education Ministry function. Government representatives expressed appreciation for the decisive role the ARS plays in the publication of Armenian school books.
The books will be made available to students–free of charge.
