
GLENDALE—Top-ranking Armenian Relief Society members attended a reception in honor of departing Consul General of the Republic of Armenia Grigor Hovhannissian, held at the Glendale regional headquarters of the ARS of Western USA on August 20, 2013. Hovhannissian has been appointed Armenia’s ambassador to Mexico.
ARS-WUSA Regional Executive Chairperson Lena Bozoyan made welcoming remarks and noted the accomplishments of Consul General Hovhannisian, including his establishment of the “House of Armenia”. That is the property where the Consulate has been housed since 2011, which is about a mile from the ARS-WUSA headquarters in Glendale. Bozoyan praised the Consul General for promoting Armenian life in the community with his positive attitude and friendly approach. She presented a memento with the ARS logo to Hovhannissian.
Hovhannissian noted with appreciation the warm welcome he received on numerous occasions and the hospitality that he has enjoyed at ARS and other community events. The Consul General praised ARS members who were present for their volunteering spirit and humanitarian work in their local communities, in Armenia and for the United Nations. Vicky Marashlian, ARS Central Executive Board Chairperson attended the reception, in addition to ARS Regional and Chapter executives, ARS and consulate staff members, and Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee representatives.
The program ended with wishes for Hovhannissian’s success in his new position in Mexico.
