WATERTOWN, Mass.—A delegation representing the Armenian Relief Society arrived in New York to take part in the United Nation’s 55th Commission on the Status of Women. The CSW Conference began on February 22 with representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations from all regions of the world attending the session. This year’s priority theme focuses on access and participation of women and girls in education, training, science and technology, including the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work.
The ARS delegation is comprised of Stephanie Killian, Valentine Berberian, Hamesd Beugekian and Houry Guedelekian. The delegation started its activities in New York on February 22 by meeting with Garen Nazarian, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia at the UN. It is worth noting that Armenia occupies the chair of the Commission on the Status of Women for 2011.
During the coming days the ARS delegation will participate in CSW meetings, workshops organized by UN Member States and non-governmental organizations, and introduce the ARS mission and its discourse on women’s issues under discussion to government delegations and NGO colleagues.
The 55th UN Commission on the Status of Women will continue its sessions until the March 4.
