“It’s my honor and privilege to represent the West San Fernando Valley—an area rich in diversity, as well as educational and economic opportunities,” said Assemblymember Matt Dababneh. He added, “Particularly as a product of California’s public higher education institutions, taking my oath of office at CSUN underscores my commitment to keeping our schools world-class, affordable and accessible.” Dababneh serves on the Budget subcommittee overseeing Education Finance. He has been a staunch supporter of Armenian issues, and developed close ties to the Armenian-American community throughout the years he served as Congressman Brad Sherman’s Chief of Staff.
California State Controller John Chiang administered the oath of office, and special remarks were delivered by Governor Michael Dukakis (retired), Congressman Brad Sherman, Senator Alex Padilla, Speaker Emeritus Bob Hertzberg, Councilmember Mitchell Englander, as well as several other elected officials, and CSUN Vice President of Student Affairs.
Matt Dababneh Represents the 45th Assembly District that includes the communities of Bell Canyon, Calabasas, Canoga Park, Chatsworth, Encino, Hidden Hills, Northridge, Reseda, Sherman Oaks, Tarzana, West Hills, Winnetka, and Woodland Hills.
