GLENDALE—The Armenian Youth Federation Camp of Calif. announced Wednesday that its annual AYF Winter Camp is now open for enrollment. The long-weekend camp will take place January 18-21, 2013 and is open to children between the ages of 12 and 17. Applications are available on the new AYF Camp website, www.ayfcamp.org, where parents can now register electronically.
“AYF Winter Camp is just as fun as Summer Camp, but with the added bonus of being in the snow.” said camper Arleen Aivazian. “My friends and I loved being campers last summer and can’t wait for January to come around so we can be back at AYF Camp.”
“Being a camper at AYF Camp is a wonderful experience all Armenian kids should have,” said AYF Camp Board member, Anya Agopian. “With that mission in mind, we have strived to make our Winter Camp affordable by pricing the entire weekend at $100.”
AYF Camp was established in 1977 with a mission to serve the Armenian children of the Diaspora, and has continued to grow ever since. In addition to launching its winter program in 2010, the camp launched its summer day-camp program this year with great success. With its expanded summer camp sessions, its winter program and summer day-camp, AYF Camp now serves some 800 children annually.
“The AYF Day Camp was a phenomenal program for my daughter.” said Mirey Mitilian, parent of seven year old Angie. “She cannot stop talking about the Day Camp staff and program, and can’t wait to go back next year.”
The summer Day Camp serves children between the ages of 5 and 12 and will be available in Pasadena and other cities in coming years.
“We have enjoyed tremendous success in recent years,” said AYF Camp Chairman, Aram Madenlian. “Hard working volunteers, generous donors, extensive campground renovations and continuously enhanced activities have made AYF Camp the premiere campground in the entire Angeles National Forest. We look forward to further growth and even greater service to our community’s children.”
Since 1977, AYF Camp has offered a genuinely rewarding experience, by serving as a place for Armenian youth to make new friends and memories of a lifetime. AYF Camp is the largest and oldest Summer Camp program in the Western United States, focusing on Armenian culture and heritage. Back when I was a badanee, in the early 1990’s, Winter Seminar was just for AYF members. I think it is great that now it is open to every kid, not just members, but I sincerely hope that the entire weekend will be used as a membership drive for AYF. All you wonderful kids who go to Seminar and Summer Camp, we need you in AYF!
