YEREVAN (Armenpress)—Azeri hackers organized a series of attacks on Armenian state, as well as more than 100 personal Web sites operating under the .am domain beginning last Friday, director of “Smart Systems” company Stepan Aslanyan told reporters Thursday.
Aslanyan explained that the attack was targeted at .am URLs and not Armenian sites with a .com or .ru suffixes.
Aslanyan added that for ensuring security of Armenian Web sites a group has been set up with a goal of developing mechanisms to effectively ward off hackers.
He said 72 people with backgrounds in the technology, media and other specialists have already been recruited for this effort. The group is planning to work out a list which will register standards a Web site must meet to ensure certain degree of protection.
Aslanyan described what happened as an issue of Armenian national security, which unequivocally has political connotations. He noted that many of the Azeri hackers are acting openly, placing the Armenian sites they have hacked on to their own sites.
The director of “Smart Systems” said that hackers placed an Azeri flag on the hacked Web sites.
For ensuring security of Armenian web sites Aslanyan underscored the importance of continual maintenance of servers and upgrading of security mechanisms.
Currently “Smart Systems” company serves 500 web sites 60 of which have been attacked.
