YEREVAN—A factory building in Yerevan belonging to the Armenian confectionery company Grand Candy caught fire Wednesday morning. The fire broke out in a 650 square meter (7,000 sq. ft.) packaging warehouse before spreading to an adjacent workshop. A total of twelve fire-fighting squads on scene extinguished the fire.
The fire department has promised a report with further details later on. No casualties were reported.
The fire broke out at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning in a packaging warehouse and later spread to a workshop, the press secretary of Grand Holdings, Vahram Brutyan, reported.
According to the preliminary information, the fire was caused by a short-circuit fault in the electric wiring, Brutyan said.
No people were killed and injured in the fire, and the damage is small, the press secretary said, adding that the exact amount of damage remains to be clarified.
Brutyan also said more detailed information will be provided by the press office later.
Grand Candy was founded in 2000 and quickly became the leading Armenian confectionery company, producing hundreds of verities of candy, ice-cream, and chocolate. It is the only company in the South Caucasus with facilities for the entire confectionery production process.
