BURBANK—Burbank City Employees Association (BCEA) President Clifford Siner met with Burbank ANCA representatives Silva Kechichian and Garen Yegparian on August 10 at the BCEA office.
Initiated at Siner’s behest, the meeting covered a range of topics. The first order of business was familiarizing one another with the activities, plans, and direction of each organization.
Most interesting was a new project initiated by BCEA to help members of the Burbank community who are in need through the volunteer efforts of its members. The target audience will be primarily the elderly, people in need, shut-ins, etc. who require assistance on manageable jobs. Perhaps a room painted for one person, someone else’s lawn mowed, yet another’s leaky faucet fixed, all the sorts of things that are easily taken care of when things are normal and comfortable, but become onerous when someone hits a rough patch.
Clifford said, “By working together in unison, we can move forward and better serve the people of the community and we also want to reach out to various parts of the community that might have language barriers,” when asking for the ANCA-B’s cooperation on this project.
Kechichian observed, “This is the first time in a decade that we will be working with one of the local unions in Burbank to serve our community. The last time was when we cooperated with the Burbank Teachers Association during the 2003 municipal election cycle to elect a new crop of School Board members during those troubled times of our school district.”
The number of Armenian employees employed by Burbank and how to increase it were also discussed, leading to recognition of the need to meet with the other unions representing the city’s employees.
The Armenian National Committee of America – Burbank advances the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of its community and promotes increased Armenian civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels.
